A Pit Crew member at KV Racing Technology needs to be quick and efficient. It requires a lot of energy and strength to participate in an active pit stop and therefore at KVRT we put our team through a specific strength and conditioning program at PitFit Training.
It takes year round commitment for our crew to become the best at what they do. A race can be won or lost on a pit stop, which is why KV Racing Technology is focused on maintaining the team’s fitness so we can use the stop to our advantage in a race.
Special thanks to Jim Leo and Ryan Von Rueden at PitFit Training for providing us with photos and training information. For more information about PitFit Training please see their website www.pitfit.com
During the race season because of the schedule the crew will go work out two days a week at the PitFit gym near the KVRT shop and once the off-season arrives they are on a five days a week schedule.
Their program has been designed to build power and strength for specific muscles used during a pit stop as opposed to an average person’s strength program.
A pit stop is considered an anaerobic effort and so training is done in anaerobic intervals that last between 10 to 60 seconds immediately followed by reaction training causing them to think and react in a stressful situation while being tired (see picture).
